Here you can see just a small example in this Printed Pattern Gallery. Patterns can be geometric, fluid, repetitive or not or a combination of all.

Patterns history is as long and humans started walking on two. Patterns can symbolize many aspects of our lives from religious, to practical like camouflage to fashion. When choosing glass splashbacks it is important to recognize the colour theme and patterns as two separate groups. Colours are relatively easy to complement with the colour match of choosing a colour of similar family shade like light grey and medium-dark grey. Alternatively, you can choose complete contrast of classic combinations of colours like red and black.

Now, where it gets interesting is when you try to compliment patterns. This becomes very difficult as patterns can be very territorial and clash easily with other patterns.

What is a pattern? Anything from wood grains, fabric weave, wallpaper, carpet, picture, furniture stitching or window blinds - all can be associated with some kind of patterns of textures of shapes.

Many large retail manufacturers go for neutral colours of their products, so to expand their compatibility with other strong patterns within the interiors and so increase the likelihood of customers buying the product on basis of a non-clash object.
